AT THE RESTAURANT
WAITER:
Good evening sir and madam. Can I get you some drinks to start off?
MAN: Sure! I’d like some water; she would like some tea.
WAITER: Alright. And have you decided what to order yet?
MAN: Yes, we have. I will take the steak, please.
WAITER: Okay. How would you like that cooked, and what sides would you like?
MAN: I would like it medium rare, please. May I have corn and mashed potatoes with it?
WAITER: Yes you may. And for the missus?
MAN: She’ll have the spaghetti, please.
WAITER: Alright. Would you like garlic bread with that?
MAN: Yes, she would.
WAITER: Alright, I’ll bring it in a moment.
MAN: Thank you!
WAITER: Here is your steak, and here is your spaghetti. I hope you enjoy your meals!
BOTH: Thanks!
MAN: Wow, this steak is really good. It’s tender and juicy.
WOMAN: Really? This spaghetti is okay. The sauce is a little too salty.
MAN: Oh, that’s too bad. How is your drink?
WOMAN: It’s really good. There’s the perfect amount of sugar in it.
MAN: That’s good. The mashed potatoes are a little dry.
WOMAN: Maybe they cooked them for too long.
MAN: Probably. How’s your garlic bread?
WOMAN: It’s delicious! It goes really well with the spaghetti.
MAN: That’s good. Waiter, may I have the check?
WAITER: Sure; here it is.
MAN: Alright, here is my credit card.
WAITER: Thank you, sir.
MAN: Hey honey, do you have change for a tip?
WOMAN: Yeah, I do. Here’s $8.
MAN: Perfect. We’re ready to go, then.
WAITER: Thank you, sir and madam! Please come again soon!

Which country is she going to?
She will spend her first six months in Australia.
What kind of work does she do?

No, this is something that she wants to do and volunteered for it.
How is she going to pay for all the travelling expenses?

Why does she want to go to Australia?
She wants to meet new people, eat new foods and explore a new land.
Where will she go after her six months in Australia?

Where were you when the earthquake began?
I was at school. Where were you?
I was at home. My house was destroyed by a flood (inundación)
I am sorry to hear that.
It is okay. All of my family survived.
That is good. I don’t know if all of my family survived.
Oh no! Who is missing?
My sister was at a friend’s house and we haven’t heard from her.
I hope she is okay.
I do too. Most of the houses in my neighborhood were destroyed.
A telephone pole fell on my neighbor’s car.
Wow!
Many bad things happened. We didn’t have electricity for more than three days.
Wow. Did you have water?
Our faucet (grifo) was turned off but luckily we had bottled water.
That is fortunate. We did not have bottled water.
How did you survive?
We boiled water from the river.
That is a good idea.
Thanks. I just hope we will be able to rebuild our city.
The earthquake did a lot of damage but we will be able to fix everything with time.
Hi
I’m very glad to see you I wasn’t sure if you were alive.
I’m glad to see you too.
That was a terrible earthquake (Terremoto). We are lucky to have survived.
That’s true.

AN INVITATION TO LUNCH
Hey, what’s up?
Not a lot; how are you?
I’m good. Do you want to go out later today?
Sure! Where do you want to go?
Maybe we can get some lunch.
Sure, that sounds good. Where should we eat?
We could go to that Diner, near your house.
We could, but we always go there.
Yeah, that’s true. I want to try something else.
How about the pizza place in town?
Their pizza is so good.
Yeah, it is! It’s kind of far away, though.
Yeah, and it’s really expensive, especially for pizza!
Yeah, I’d rather go somewhere a bit cheaper (Un poco más barato), to be honest.
There’s nothing wrong with saving money! (Ahorrar dinero)
Hey, why don’t we try that new café that just opened?
Yeah, I hear they make really good sandwiches.
Their coffee is supposed to be really good, too!
Hopefully it won’t cost too much.
I don’t think it’s that expensive.
Awesome. When do you want to meet?
Well, I could come pick you up if you like.
That would be great! What time?
I’ll come get you around 1:00 PM.
Sounds great. See you then!
See you!
